From newcomers to veterans, on the slopes and on the ice, the Canadian Olympic team includes medallists of all stripes.

Trips to the podium for Canada began early on in Pyeongchang, with a pair of medals — silver and bronze — for snowboarders Max Parrot and Mark McMorris.

Where the haul ends remains to be see, but international data analytics website Gracenotes forecasted the Canadians would finish third in the total medal count with 33, behind Germany (40) and Norway (37), according to the Canadian Press. The seven gold, 12 silver and 14 bronze medals the Canadians are projected to take home would wallop the country’s previous top total of 26 medals at the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver.

With each athlete comes a unique story: some overcame horrific injuries, others started a new life as a Canuck. Many won’t see another Olympics Games but all will leave triumphant with a medal around their neck.
