U.S. President Donald Trump’s serial dishonesty continues. He’s now up to 1,566 false claims for his presidency.
WASHINGTON—Eighteen false claims to a rally in Michigan. Ten false claims in an interview with Fox and Friends. Nine false claims at a rally in Indiana, eight at a tax reform event in Ohio. Six more in a speech to the National Rifle Association.
It has been three weeks since our last update on U.S. President Donald Trump’s false claims — because we were on vacation, not because he stopped making an outlandish number of them. Trump said 80 incorrect things over that three-week period: 37 from Apr. 23 to Apr. 29, 27 from Apr. 30 to May 5, and 16 last week.
If Trump is a serial liar, why call this a list of “false claims,” not lies? The answer is that we can’t be sure that each and every one was intentional. In some cases, he may have been confused or ignorant. What we know, objectively, is that he was not telling the truth.
