The Assiniboine Park Conservancy’s goal of raising $200 million to help with the lofty redevelopment work currently underway at the zoo got a huge shot in the arm Wednesday with a $1 million donation.
The gift comes from Globe General Agencies president and CEO Richard Morantz, Sheree Walder Morantz, and their family, and will be used to help finish the 10-acre Journey to Churchill exhibit expected to open at the zoo next summer.
“The redevelopment of Assiniboine Park and Zoo is a wonderful investment, one that will create an amenity of both tangible and intangible value for Winnipeggers and their guests for years to come,” said Morantz in a release Wednesday. “It is our hope that our gift will encourage others to support the Park and Zoo in whatever way they can.”
The donation brings the total of the conservancy’s Imagine a Place Campaign to $121 million.
