If they refuse, City of Abbotsford will seek an injunction

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) – A group of homeless people camped out in Abbotsford’s Jubilee Park have been given until Wednesday to clear out.

Abbotsford Mayor Bruce Banman says enough is enough. “There is criminal activity going on, there is open drug use going on. We had a very near fatal overdose a few days ago and even last night we had people within the encampment itself, there was a rather serious assault.”

Barry Shantz speaks for some of the campers and says the notice means nothing. “I don’t think one person is going to leave that camp by Wednesday at 4 p.m. We’re ready to rock, that’s the position we have taken, bring it on Abbotsford. It’s time to settle this once and for all. We want some meaningful conversation.”

The site was set up several weeks ago as a protest to compel the city to move forward with a sanctioned camp.
