Massive fire at recycling plant in Delta, B.C

VANCOUVER — Fire crews worked diligently Saturday evening to extinguish a blaze in an industrial area along the Fraser River in Delta, just off the eastern tip of Annacis Island.

According to Delta Police, the fire was located at a recycling facility in the 9300 block of Alaska Way. It began around 7 p.m., and raged for several hours. Police said propane tanks and tires in the area made battling the blaze more difficult.

By 9:45 p.m., Delta Fire said they had gotten the fire under control, and wound continue to douse it throughout the night. No one was injured, and police said the fire was not suspicious.

A thick plume of black smoke was visible across Metro Vancouver throughout the incident. Footage of the blaze came pouring in online, including video of multiple explosions in the area. Delta Police advised drivers on nearby Highway 17 not to stop to take pictures, fearing it would cause an accident.
