North American stock slide lower, loonie trades down against U.S. dollar

In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 146.35 points at 25,452.39 after dropping more than 800 points a day ago. The S&P 500 index was down 16.59 points at 2,769.09, while the Nasdaq composite was down 15.44 points at 7,406.61.

The Canadian dollar traded lower at 76.54 cents U.S. compared with an average of 76.97 cents U.S. on Wednesday.

The November crude contract was down $1.49 (U.S.) at $71.68 (U.S.) per barrel and the November natural gas contract was down 7.5 cents at $3.21 (U.S.) per mmBTU.
