Change is in the wind at TIFF. The most recent available figures, for 2016, show a 27-per-cent decline in yearly attendance at its TIFF Bell Lightbox cinema on King St. W.; the annual festival in September, meanwhile, reported a drop of 3,000 attendees.
Piers Handling is stepping down as the festival’s director and CEO at the end of this year. Between that announcement last September and today, Cameron Bailey was promoted as artistic director and co-head, while TIFF continued to conduct a search for an incoming executive director and co-head.
Maheux will be replaced by a new executive director and co-head, to be announced prior to this year’s fest. She has been with the organization for 30 years, playing a role in such achievements as the creation of the Lightbox.
