WASHINGTON—U.S. President Donald Trump has broken his own dishonesty record for the third consecutive month.
Trump made 321 false claims in August. That shattered his previous record of 280, in July, which had beaten his previous record of 268, in June.
Trump’s wildly dishonest August was capped by an 83-false-claim week that began Monday, Aug. 27. (The week continued into early September, but 82 of the claims came in August.)
The week was the fourth-most-dishonest week of his presidency. All four of these weeks have come in the last three months.
If Trump is a serial liar, why call this a list of “false claims,” not lies? Click here for our detailed explanation. The short answer is that we can’t be sure that each and every one was intentional. In some cases, he may have been confused or ignorant. What we know, objectively, is that he was not telling the truth.
