Sixth-seeded Caroline Wozniacki defeated Sloane Stephens 6-2, 6-3 on Saturday afternoon to reach the final of the Rogers Cup women’s tennis tournament.
Wozniacki will play defending champion Simona Halep or Elina Svitolina for the championship on Sunday at Toronto’s Aviva Centre.
Halep and Svitolina won rain-delayed quarter-final matches early Saturday, hours before their semifinal. Halep, the No. 2 seed, beat Caroline Garcia 6-4, 6-2 while Svitolina, the No. 5 seed, topped fourth-seeded Garbine Muguruza 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
In doubles quarter-final play, Ottawa’s Gabriela Dabrowski and Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko dropped a 7-5, 6-3 decision to the third-seeded Czech duo of Lucie Safarova and Barbora Strycova.
